Excercise Cardiolite Stress Test (1 Day) ...

If you are, or think you may be pregnant) please inform the technologist. 

Your doctor has requested a treadmill stress test with myocardial imaging. This test takes place in the Testing Lab in our office. The first part involves administration of a tracer, Cardiolite, followed by imaging of your heart. The second part involves exercising on a treadmill followed by administration of Cardiolite, and another set of images. 
Preparations for this test are very important. Please follow the instructions EXACTLY. 

  1. Do not eat or drink for four (4) hours prior to the test. Small sips of water may be taken with medications. 
  2. No caffeine of any kind for 24 hours. Please refer to the attached list of foods and medications to avoid. Please note that "decaffeinated" beverages and chocolate should be avoided.
  3. No smoking for at least four (4) hours prior to the test. 
  4. Certain medications should not be taken for 48 hours prior to the test. Please check with your doctor before stopping your medications. Please refer to the list of medications to avoid. 

First Part: 

  1. Report to our office at your scheduled appointment time. Please bring a list of medications that you take. as well as your insurance card. 
  2. An intravenous will be started to allow for the administration of medications for the test, and Cardiolite (imaging tracer) will then be given through the intravenous.
  3. Imaging will be performed approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour later. 

Second Part: 

  1. You will then exercise on a treadmill. During this part of the test, your electrocardiogram and blood pressure will be monitored. 
  2. Cardiolite will then be given through the intravenous. 
  3. Imaging will be performed approximately 30 to 45 minutes later. 

Your total time for this test will be approximately three (3) hours.
