Excercise Cardiolite Stress Test (2 Day) ...

If you are, or think you may be pregnant, please inform the technologist.

Your doctor has requested a treadmill stress test. This test takes place on two separate days in the Testing Lab in our office. The first day involves administration of a tracer, Cardiolite, followed by imaging of your heart. The second day the test involves exercising on a treadmill followed by administration of Cardiolite, and another set of images.

First Day:

  1. Eat a normal breakfast and take all medications as prescribed by your doctor.
  2. Report to the office approximately 15 minutes prior to your appointment.
  3. You will be given an injection of Cardiolite (imaging tracer).
  4. Images of your heart will be taken approximately one (1) hour later.

Second Day:

Preparations for this test are very important. Please follow the instructions EXACTLY.

  1. Do not eat or drink for four (4) hours prior to the test. Small sips of water may be taken with medications.
  2. No caffeine of any kind for 24 hours. Please refer to the attached list of foods and medications to avoid. Please note that "decaffeinated" beverages and chocolate should be avoided.
  3. No smoking for at least four (4) hours prior to the test.
  4. Certain medications should not be taken for 48 hours  prior to the test. Please check with your doctor before stopping your medications. Please refer to the list of medications to avoid.

Day of Test:

  1. Report to our office at your scheduled appointment time. Please bring a list of medications that you take, as well as your insurance card.
  2. An intravenous will be started to allow for the administration of Cardiolite (imaging tracer) during the test.
  3. You will exercise on a treadmill and your electrocardiogram and blood pressure will be monitored. The Cardiolite will then be given through the intravenous.
  4. Imaging will be performed approximately 30 to 45 minutes later.
  5. You will be here approximately one and a half (1-1/2) hours.

We hope this has been helpful, but should you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to call our office at (203)265-9831.
